Montgomery organizations kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Several organizations in the River Region joined together Thursday night to honor those who fight against breast cancer and to remember those who have been lost to the disease.
The Joy to Life Foundation, Women of Hope, and Sista’s Can Survive organizations gathered at the Shoppes at Eastchase fountain to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The kick off included speakers, songs, and turning the Main Street fountain pink in honor of the month.
We spoke with Joy Blondheim, the co-founder and director of Joy to Life Foundation about the purpose of the event.
“It means everything to survivors to come together and to celebrate and to be able to tell their story and hear other stories,” says Blondheim. “It gives a survivor just a sense of such empowerment you know. They gather strength from one another, we do, we gather strength from each other.”
Joy to Life is planning more events this month, including its annual walk scheduled for Saturday October 24th at 17 springs in Millbrook.
