A Tropical Threat For The Upcoming Weekend
Tropical Depression Nine has formed in the southwestern gulf. The tropical system is forecast to become a cat 2 hurricane before making landfall somewhere along the southeast gulf coast late Friday into Saturday morning. It could be rather wet and stormy around here this weekend.
In the meantime, we have a mainly clear and mild night ahead. Temps will drop into the upper 50s to lower 60s overnight. Sunshine returns and temps warm nicely into the mid to upper 80s Wednesday afternoon. We will continue in a rather quiet weather pattern through Thursday. Sunny and warm conditions will be the rule. High temps will hover around the mid 80s while overnight lows will range from the upper 50s to lower 60s.
Our weekend weather will be a different story. We may be facing a landfalling hurricane somewhere near the Alabama gulf coast. The NHC forecast track has the tropical system coming up through Mississippi and Alabama. This track would bring gusty winds and heavy rain to the state. Rainfall amounts could reach 3 to 6+ inches for some area. The east side of the track would also face a tornado threat. There’s still some uncertainty with this system and changes to the track and impacts will be updated over the coming days.  Right now, we should expect the system to bring lots of rain and gusty winds with it. This would have impacts on college football games and any of your outdoor plans Saturday.  We will be keeping an eye on it for you.
