Alabama National Fair starts this week; WAKA Action 8 Day Thursday
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Since 1954, the Alabama National Fair has been one of the most eagerly-awaited events in the state, with this year’s fair running October 8-18.
Right now, fair workers are setting up rides, carnival games and of course, getting ready to sell some of that delicious fair food that we all look forward to.
It takes a lot of people to get the grounds at Garrett Coliseum ready for 11 days of visitors, for what’s billed as “The 11 Best Days of Fall.”
“This is the exciting part, seeing it all come together,” Alabama National Fair General Manager Randy Stephenson told Action 8 News. “It went from a blank parking lot last week to, you see what it is now. It’s exciting and we’re just getting ready. We’ll start the Taste Wednesday night and we’ll kick off Thursday evening and we’ll be ready to go for 11 days.”
The fair is a fundraiser for the Montgomery Kiwanis Club. The club donates hundreds of thousands of dollars made at the fair each year to local non-profits. More than $10 million has been donated over the years for various community projects.
It all starts Wednesday night with the Taste of the Fair, which starts at 5PM. This pre-fair event allows you to sample the food and drinks that will be offered at the fair. There are a limited number of tickets for $40.
Then get ready for the first night of the fair on Thursday, which is WAKA Action 8 Day. Admission is half-price compared to Friday, with children through age 11 just $5, and those 12 and up, $10.
You can also get a $5-dollar discount on wristbands, which are $35. Gates open at 4.
