OPP, Ala. (WAKA) – The life of former Opp City Schools superintendent Emily Edgar is being remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Edgar died Tuesday at the age of 60. She had battled cancer.

She started working in the school system when she was just 19, and worked her way up over 37 years of service. She retired earlier this year.

A memorial service for her was held this afternoon.

“Mrs. Edgar loved Opp City Schools, but even more importantly, she loved the people who make up our schools and our community,” Opp City Schools posted. “She led with dedication, compassion, integrity and a genuine desire to do what was best for others. She was deeply loved by those who knew and worked alongside her and was highly respected throughout the education community.”

Upon her retirement, Mrs. Edgar wrote, “I love this place, and the past 37 years will remain in my heart forever.”
