Lockheed Martin gets $1 million federal grant for expansion

Lockheed Martin broke ground on a new Munitions Production Center in Troy, Alabama, on May 21, 2026.
PIKE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Lockheed Martin plant in Pike County is getting a $1 million grant for an expansion that is expected to create 300 new jobs.
The money is coming from a community block grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Gov. Kay Ivey made the announcement today.
The grant will construct a water line to support the company’s $35 to $50 million expansion that will include at least one new facility.
Lockheed Martin plans to increase its annual production of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile interceptors from 96 to 400 over the next seven years. The company also builds Javelin missiles, Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles and air-to-ground missiles.
“This is a significant development for Troy and Pike County that will bring many good jobs and enhance economic opportunities in the area,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to award funds to this project, which will benefit area residents and support national defense objectives.”
The project will also support the Rex Lumber and Universal Precast industrial facilities in Troy and is expected to improve service to about 900 nearby residents. Local leaders said the infrastructure upgrade will address current water system limitations and facilitate future industrial growth.
“This development will improve regional manufacturing capacity and generate new economic opportunities for area residents,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA is pleased to partner with Gov. Ivey and Pike County in support of this substantial project.”
The Pike County Commission will contribute a local match of $755,000.
