Green Street M.B. Church to host food giveaway in Selma

A Selma church is hosting a free food giveaway Saturday morning in Selma.

Green Street Missionary Baptist Church is holding its first monthly food giveaway at the church at 9 am.

Church members were at the church Friday morning packing up food to hand out to people.

Food packages include canned goods — assorted pre-packaged foods — and a variety of meats.

The church raised enough money to buy a ton of food from the Selma Area Food Bank — to giveaway to people in need.

“It is a lot of need for food, clothing and housing,” said Margaret Ann Rawls.

“So we gon’ start out here. Small amount, but we hope it to grow like big, big, big, like Feed America one day, maybe.”

Rawls says the food will be given away on a first come — first serve basis — while supplies last.
