International press officers get a taste of Alabama culture in Montgomery visit
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – A group of foreign press officers were in Montgomery to learn more about the people and culture of our state.
The Alabama Broadcasters Association and the Bertelsmann Foundation invited Action 8 News and other media outlets to a special dinner at Central restaurant downtown last night to meet the international group. Press officers representing the European Union, European Parliament, France, Germany, Denmark, Finland and nearly a dozen other European countries had lively conversations during the dinner.
The night was an opportunity for journalists, reporters and media professionals to discuss important issues and forge new relationships with the press officers who live and work in Washington, D.C.
“We think that Alabamians should care about the connection between Europe and the United States and how important it is,” Adriana Brassart, the head of press and diplomacy for the European Union delegation told Action 8 News. “There are about 14 European countries that invest in Alabama, creating jobs, about 40,000 jobs created. European Union countries are the biggest export partner of Alabama. They are big employers in the automotive sector, carmakers or aerospace sector. I think Alabamians are more connected to Europe and European countries than they actually know.”
The foreign press officers also toured Alabama State University and EJI’s Legacy sites while they were in the Capital City. The group also made stops in Huntsville and Birmingham during their trip.
