The ABI is investigating a fatal officer involved shooting in Millbrook.  The incident happened just before noon and involved five suspects. The youngest is just 14 years old.

A man who was in the process of burglarizing a home was shot and killed by a Millbrook police officer. The police department is now working with other agencies to investigate exactly what happened.

The Civil Point subdivision in Millbrook was the scene of a shooting early Monday afternoon. It all happened on ClearView Lane. The Millbrook Police Department responded to a phone call in reference to a suspicious vehicle and possible burglary.

“They saw several black male individuals exit and go around to the rear of the house,” says Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson.

Johnson says when officers arrived on the scene, one suspect was taken into custody immediately. Three others fled the house on foot. A fifth suspect was in the backyard.

“One of the suspects exited the backyard and approached the officer with a hand gun in his hand and at that point in time, the officer confronted him and he did shoot the individual.”

The individual was pronounced dead on the scene. The other three suspects were caught shortly after in neighboring areas. Johnson credits multiple agencies with capturing the suspects.

“We had the Department of Corrections. We also had the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department, Autauga County Sheriff’s Department, the Central Alabama Drug Task Force.”

The Alabama Bureau of Investigations is now looking into the shooting, as protocol whenever an officer is involved in a shooting.

Johnson says if the suspects participated in the burglary, which at this time they are believed to have, they will be charged with murder because someone was killed in the midst of a crime.
