It’s the start of prom season for high schoolers in the Montgomery area. However, for families on a budget, being able to purchase a prom dress may be impossible. The River Region United Way offered those families the chance to find the perfect prom dress at the perfect price.

Free.

The group hosted it’s annual “iHeart Prom River Region” Prom Dress Giveaway, giving teenage girls in the area a chance to pick out their prom dress from the over 900 available dresses on the rack. The local United Way chapter started collecting the donated prom dresses five months ago for this event. The group partnered with Jim Massey Cleaners, who cleaned every donated dress before they were put back on the rack. Alabama News Network is a sponsor for the event.

Event leaders say this is a great opportunity to make sure area teens get to feel special on their special night.

“The opportunity for a young lady to come here and pick out an absolutely free dress saves them money,” says Jimmy Hill, the President of the River Region United Way, “yet [it] gives that young lady an opportunity to participate in her junior or senior prom.”
