NAACP Gala Commemorates 50th Anniversary Voting Rights March

The events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the voting rights march have kicked off.
Thursday night many people gathered for a special gala hosted by the Alabama NAACP.Â
It took place at the Renaissance Hotel in Montgomery.
They honored many people that were active in the events of the civil rights movement from well known to lesser known heroes.
“We want to recognize what was done and who did it. And people just started calling us from all over the country saying they wanted to be here tonight to help commemorate this occasion and it’s a happy occasion and it’s a sad occasion because of the lives that were lost,” said AL NAACP president Benard Simelton.
We’re told members came from as far away as California to be here for the event.
