MPD Makes Arrest in Waffle House Shooting

MONTGOMERY — The Montgomery Police Department has made an arrest in the Wednesday, March 11, shooting death of 44-year-old Robert Nelson of Montgomery. 

MPD detectives charged John Cain, 41, of Montgomery with one count of murder. Cain was taken into custody at the scene. Following his arrest, Cain was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility, where he was being held under a $75,000 bond. 

On Wednesday, March 11, at about 4:39 a.m., MPD and Fire Medics responded to the 900 block of West South Boulevard after receiving a report of a subject shot. There, they located the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

MPD’s initial investigation indicated the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation. 

Further investigation identified Cain as a suspect.
