Time is counting down as we get closer to the big announcement.
The Foshee Property Management Company put a clock up on the old Belk department store building, which is part of the “Market District” redevelopment project.
An announcement is expected at 10 AM Thursday.
People we talk to say they have their own ideas for what they’d like to see.

“I’d like to see maybe a cigar shop in the area. Something that is not native to the area. Something that would give it an little more diversity to the area. It would be something nice,” said Eddie Barlow.

“I do know the city has been really focused on trying to figure out if we can bring some type of supermarket or grocery store to support the residents, so I think that will be a great opportunity as well,” said Charles Jackson.

Now that the streetscape construction has finished, plans are coming together for the rest of lower Dexter Avenue.

“Restaurants, pubs that will attract crowds. I think that is always very nice,” said Joe Dunning.

“You know the more places you have, the more people will come. It’s like if you only have one, you’re not going to get that much traffic. But if you have several restaurants, several shops, gift shops whatever it might be, you’re going to get more traffic,” said Ellen Blackburn.

People we talk to say they are looking forward to whatever may come.

“It’s neat because you look forward to seeing a whole pedestrian mall again. Whether it’s Chris’ [Hotdogs] up here or Irish Bred, all the way down to the fountain it will be really nice,” said Patrick Vlaming.
