VA Town Hall Meeting Held in Montgomery

Long wait times and inadequate patient care were some of the reported problems in the veterans affairs facilities in Montgomery and Tuskegee.

And at a town hall meeting Tuesday, veterans had a chance to speak with leaders.

It’s been almost a year since an audit and investigations revealed multiple issues in veterans affairs facilities, like some of the longest wait times nationally right here in Central Alabama.

The acting director says more than 150 new employees were added locally since September.
And while progress is being made, both leaders and vets agree there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Max Roberts, US Army (Ret.) Staff Sergeant said, ” I think it’s up to us veterans to make sure that they tow the line and make sure these changes are made in a positive manner. I don’t believe that we should change just for the sake of change. but I do think that the VA needs to evolve.”

The acting director says they are looking for vets to serve on a committee to help relay concerns to local VA officials.

Also a new facility is almost complete on Chantilly Parkway. It’s expected to be opened up by September or October for out patient services.
