Second Night of SLE Rodeo Kicks Off

The annual SLE Rodeo kicked off last night in Montgomery and the fun continued tonight. Guests can expect plenty of events and contests, live entertainment, and of course…rodeos.

Cowboys and Cowgirls are taking over Garrett Coliseum this weekend for the rodeo. And event organizers say this is one of the best ones yet.

Craig Jones is a regular at the rodeo and this year he brought his two-year-old grandson  for family night.

“It’s all just so exciting,” he said. “It’s great to watch them compete. I love all of it. He’s just getting started but I’m sure he’ll be in it life long. He’s just that way.”

SLE President-elect Walter Crim tells us the family night bargain helps to bring the crowd in.

” You get four tickets for 40 dollars plus you get four hot dogs and four Pepsi’s.”

It started with the stick horse rodeo but shortly after, came the real thing.

Bareback riding, bronco busting, and steer wrestling seemed to be popular among the crowd.

“Our production is Frontier Rodeo,” Crim says. “They are from Texas. They furnish all the bucking stock.”

The stock that appeared to be most popular among children was the horses.

“I took the older ones when they was younger,”  says Sam Bargainer. “And now, I’ve started taking the younger ones.”

Cowboys from all over the country made their way to Montgomery to showcase their talents.

“They’re professionals,” Crim says. “They come and they pay their own way. They pay their own expenses. And if they win, they get money. If they don’t, they go home empty handed.”

It’s not too late to check out the SLE Rodeo. There’s still one more day of fun so be sure the head over to the Garrett Coliseum.
