“Live and Listen” Brings Live Music to Capital City

The Scarlet Begonias, a Grateful Dead cover band performs live at The Warehouse in downtown Montgomery Friday night.
It’s part of a new business called “Live and Listen” that Montgomery native Jordan Kirkland started to help bring more attractions to the Capital City.
“Basically, the concept is creating an organization that allows us to promote music through interviews, concert reviews, album reviews for bands all over across the country,” said Kirkland.
The company started last summer with the first benefit concert around Thanksgiving and another around Christmas. Kirkland says the support of the community has grown each time.
He hopes to bring bigger bands that may not necessarily have Montgomery as part of their tour.
“When routing tours from Birmingham, Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, we believe we can help put Montgomery back at on the map,” said Kirkland.
“Live and Listen” is able to operate thanks to the sales of their apparel items in all size t-shirts. And a portion of the ticket sales goes to charity.
The mayor and city is on board with the efforts, along with community sponsors.
“It would not be possible for us to continue without the sponsors being so generous and seeing the value of being part of us bringng a bunch of like minded people together for a really good time and also finding a way to give back to the community,” said Kirkland.
The concert benefits The Cancer Wellness Foundation.
