More than 1,200 people gathered in Eclectic for the funeral of Montgomery police officer David Colley, who was killed in a car wreck while on duty last weekend.

Officers came from as far away as Atlanta to honor his memory.

Mayor Todd Strange and Attorney General Luther Strange were among the officials in attendance. So were countless friends.

“You never caught him without a smile. You could hardly ever make him mad. He always inspired to make somebody else happy. Wasn’t too much worried about himself as he was everybody else,” Colley’s friend Stephen Weldon told Alabama News Network.

The service concluded as police led the motorcade to Prospect Baptist Church where Colley’s body was laid to rest.

He died last Saturday when his patrol car collieded with an 18 wheeler.

He was 24 years old. He leaves behind a wife and daughter.
