The Alabama News Network Facebook page is filled with reaction to how a mother used police to teach her 10-year-old son a lesson he’ll probably never forget.

In Columbus, Georgia, a mother wanted to scare her son, who reportedly had been constantly misbehaving and being disrespectful in school. So, she called police to help stage a mock arrest.

The photo of the mock arrest that we posted on Facebook has been liked more than 500,000 times and counting.

Many of those commenting on the story say the mother did the right thing, but others  disagree.

So who’s right?  We talked to Meagen Boan, a behavioral management specialist with the Montgomery Public School system.

She says while the child may have learned his lesson for now, the mock arrest could actually cause more harm down the road.

Boan says parents should always take the time to work with teachers and counselors at theIir child’s school to help correct any behavioral issues.

We also asked Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley his thoughts. He says he wouldn’t have done it.

“I believe in we have to approach it in a different light. That was her child. She made that decision. I think I would do a different decision to try to insure they can come to us in those times of need instead of being fearful about law enforcement,” Chief Finley said.
