More companies and government organizations are switching their vehicles from gas to propane as a way to save money.
Representatives from several state and local agencies, along with experts from the Alabama Clean Fuels Commission took part in the Propane Road Show in Montgomery.
Industry professionals were on hand to demonstrate how clean they say propane gas is for the environment.
The Lee County Sheriff’s office and the Alabama Department of Corrections are just two examples of organizations that are switching their vehicles to propane.
While the up-front cost can be steep, they say propane pays for itself in the long run.
“As of last Friday, the price was at 60 cents per gallon, compared to $2.50 we’re paying at the local gas station. So we’re saving almost $1.90 by using propane,” Andy Farquhar of the Alabama Department of Corrections said.
Several school systems in Alabama are also switching to propane for their buses.
