Hurricane Season Begins

Hurricanes are no stranger to the state of the Alabama.

As of June 1st, hurricane season is officially underway.

This year the National Weather Service is only predicting between 6 and 11 named storms for this season. Up to two of those could become what we call major hurricanes.
That’s why Alabama News Network Meteorologist Elissia Wilson says you always need a safety plan in place.

“What are you going to do if all lanes of traffic are going north because people are evacuating the coast? How are you going to stay in touch with your family and friends? So, you want to have a plan, have a safety kit that includes enough water for at least 3 days, and if the power goes out you want to have those necessary things: weather radio, batteries, flashlights, and special medications you need to at least get through 3 days,” said Wilson.

Hurricane season runs from June through November.
