An update now on the former Head Elementary School property in Montgomery. The school was torn down earlier this year. And now we know what will be going up in its place.

Bellehurst resident Debra Burrows says she’s happy that she no longer has to look at this.

“I think it’s great. I’m glad the empty school is gone.”

The former Head Elementary School was torn down in January and now, developers are moving quickly to bring in new businesses.

“The McClintons had to, like every developer, keep it quiet until they actually had everything signed, all the property sold, and so now it’s out…” says City Councilman Richard Bollinger.

A Zaxby’s, a Burger King, a MapCo Gas Station and a small strip mall are all confirmed to move to the site. Bollinger says developers are trying to recruit a sit-down restaurant as well.

“I think it’s going to be great,” says resident Cindy Ashcraft. “I hope it’s an improvement. I would love a Friday’s. I love TGIFriday’s.”

Bollinger also tells us the city will take over the old Flips Uptown Grill building, which was ruined in a fire. However, he says the small size of the lot and the location make it a difficult sale.

“The city is looking at maybe re-alligning Perry Hill with Dalraida Road and that would go across the Flips property,” Bollinger says.

And the city just got the deed to the former Screw’s Armory this week, which will soon be demolished.

“It’ll be a nice walking park for the Bellehurst, Dalraida people and it’ll also have maybe a road extension across the ditch behind us into the ball field.”

“I have another grandchild that visits so it’ll be some place for us to go,” says Burrows.

“That’d be great for the kids,” says Ashcraft.
