Our Political Analyst Steve Flowers was on Alabama News Network to look ahead to the special session that will be needed to pass a General Fund budget.
In the regular session, the Legislature passed a budget that called for massive spending cuts. Gov. Robert Bentley promptly vetoed it. He is proposing new taxes and fees to balance the budget, which the Legislature largely ignored. By law, the budget must be balanced.
That sets the stage for a special session, which Bentley says he’s planning to call this summer. The budget will go into effect Oct. 1.
