Two Anniston Officers Accused of Belonging to Hate Group
Anniston officials say two police lieutenants are on administrative leave during an investigation into allegations that they belong to a hate group.
An article the Southern Poverty Law Center posted on its HateWatch blog Wednesday says lieutenants Josh Doggrell and Wayne Brown are members of the League of the South. The article includes a video of Doggrell speaking at one of the group’s conferences.
The SPLC says the organization is a neo-confederate group. The organization’s website says opposition to federal law, racial and gender equality, and a “vision for an independent Southern republic” are among its core beliefs.
City spokeswoman Aziza Jackson says officials are working to “ensure the appropriate action is taken.”
