Former Tuskegee Nusing Home Donated to City Could Become Hospital

A former nursing home in Tuskegee may soon be filled with people once again.
The old Salem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center shut down in January 2014. Multiple health code violations cost the facility its Medicare eligibility. Since then, a new owner bought the building and donated it to the city. Right now, Tuskegee officials say they’re weighing several options about what they can do with the property.
“Emergency care, urgent care, other forms of care, small hospital, these are the kinds of options we’re going to look at,” said Mayor Johnny Ford.
A local group is hoping to turn the facility into a home for homeless veterans. They say they’re working with the city to help make that happen.
