It’s been over a year since the city of Troy announced they’d be working with two local animal groups to finally build an animal shelter in the city.

But to this day, no ground has been broken. So a new start up animal group is taking matters into their own hands.

Right now there’s no animal shelter in the county, besides a small pound. The board of adjustments approved a beginning step to transform the building on Three Notch into a boarding facility, adoption center and small pet shop.

Half the boarding will be for anyone’s pets, and the other half will go to rescues.

Tiffany Howington, Founder Troy Animal Rescue Project said, “We spend from 700-1,000 dollars a month on boarding dogs at vet clinics because we don’t have the space to put them, this will alleviate that problem.”

Troy Animal Rescue Project plans to move into the building once all the repairs and inspections are complete in just a few weeks.
