GREENVILLE, AL — It’s time for summer football practice at Greenville High School.
The school is home for one of the top football prospects in America, Marlon Davidson. However the 5-star defensive end isn’t at practice this week.
“We want him to buy into the process, and he’s done that,” said Greenville football coach Josh McLendon. “He’s done a good job and these guys are going to rally around him. We are going to rally around each other and have each other’s back.”
Part of that rally is giving Davidson a break to spend time with his family. Marlon transferred back to Greenville from Carver High School after his mother passed away earlier this year.
At Jim Harbaugh’s camp earlier this month, he said coming home to graduate early and make a college decision put him at ease.
“To know that I can come home and that I have accomplished something,” said Davidson. “And just knowing that I have progressed into what I want to become, and just knowing that everything now is going to be more easier to me, just knowing i learned my technique, it feels great.”
His return home is causing what you could call the Marlon Davidson Effect. More division one college coaches are coming to Greenville.
Davidson’s teammates are getting more opportunities to earn athletic scholarships.
“Not only are the coaches looking at him, they are looking at me too,” said Joe Maxwell, a senior defensive end and linebacker. “It’s a great feeling because I know after high school there’s a possibility I could still play the game I love.”
“There’s more eyes now<" said Skilar Moorer, senior wide reciever. "We had the talent, they just didn't know about it. He came back. They know now. We just put on a show."
Both Joe Maxwell and Skilar Moorer are getting extra looks with Davidson in town, especially from South Alabama, Alabama State, and a list of others.
And summer practice is where they can lay the foundation for “putting on that show” to impress colleges.
