New drop down barricades will be added to three separate railroad intersections in Troy.
The crossbars will be added to intersections at Dean Street, Love Street and College Street.
The maintenance of the railroad signs is the only thing the city is going to have to pay for.
The state and the railroad are covering the project.
Dejerilyn King Henderson, Troy City Council, District 5 said, “I have worked in my yard on many occasions and seen people literally almost jump these railroad tracks to get away from the train. That to me is so irresponsible. we need to have safety precautions in place at this particular railroad track because this is a highly populated area, it’s an area where we have quite a few children. So, to have those railroad crossing bars here will provide the safety standards to protect the citizens.”
No word on when the new automatic barriers will be in place. City leaders expect the work to start on the intersections at some point this summer.
