From the West Alabama Newsroom–  A new industry is growing on the river in Demopolis – and its generating hundreds of thousands of dollars for the local economy.

Kingfisher Bay Marina in Demopolis is expanding.

The marina is adding forty-four new boat slips to the sixty-eight it already has.

The facility has gained a reputation as one of the best marinas in the southeast by providing amenities that other marinas don’t.

“Most marinas on the waterways do not have a swimming pool,” said marina co-owner Kim Hansard.

“That’s one of the little niceties that we’ve put in that makes it special here.”

Estelle Taylor is also one of the co-owners.

“We’re not interested in just an old place to park your boat we want you to want to come here and enjoy the place,” said Taylor.

The marina has the space available to eventually grow to house up to 300 boats.
