After nine years, the “Jazz on the Grass” Festival has a new look, getting re-booted this year for the inaugural Nat King Cole Jazz Festival. About 200 people gathered at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival today for the event. They enjoyed food, vendors, and — of course — jazz music.

The Nat King Cole Society and Alabama State University helped sponsor the festival. Musicians from all over the southeast performed, and there was a jazz jam tribute to Cole featuring saxophonist Sam Williams.

Ahead of the festival, a historical marker commemorating Nat King Cole was dedicated on July 31st on the ASU campus.
