From the West Alabama Newsroom–  With unemployment numbers still high in some parts of the state — the opportunity to find work drew hundreds of job-seekers to a job fair in Wilcox County.

The Alabama Career Center System partnered with Wilcox County Public Schools to host the job fair.

The event brought more than 30 employers representing several different industries under one roof in the county with the state’s highest unemployment.

“The charge for agency is that we got to make sure that job seekers find the opportunities that are available out there,” said Alabama Department of Labor Commissioner Fitzgerald Washington.

“There’s over 500 jobs available within a 50 mile radius of Camden. Most people in the area don’t realize that those jobs are available. So, its our job to make sure that we bring those services and communicate what those opportunities are,” he said.

The job fair was the third in a series of five planned for counties with traditionally high unemployment.

Job fairs have now been held in Dallas, Lowndes and Wilcox counties. Perry and Greene counties are next.
