Fire Caused by Lightning Strike Destroys Marengo Co. Church

From the West Alabama Newsroom– A small Marengo County church congregation will have to find a new place to worship on Sundays after their church building is destroyed by fire.
Alabama fire officials say lightning caused the fire that burned Gilfield Baptist Church to the ground Tuesday night.
Pastor Dewayne Charleston says the church plans to rebuild — but will have to start over completely.
“There was nothing left, not even the benches, the pulpit, nothing was left,” he said. “It was a total loss on everything.”
Gilfield Baptist Church is located in Gallion — just east of Demopolis.
