Inmate found dead in Lee County Jail cell

An inmate at the Lee County Jail has been found dead inside his cell.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says the body of 51-year-old Kevin Bradley Winslett was discovered this morning at around 6:30. He was from the Salem community in Lee County.

Jones say Winslett was suffering from a life-threatening medical condition before his arrest. He says Winslett was alone in his cell and there were no signs of foul play.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office has been asked to investigate the circumstances of the death in line with Lee County Sheriff’s Office policy to provide an independent investigation.

Jones says Winslett had been arrested on November 22 and was being held without bond on these charges:

one count of possession of drug paraphernalia
