The Alabama State Games & ASF host their inaugural Christmas-themed pickleball tournament. In an effort to marry the two, those in charge decided on the name “Dinklebells Tournament.”
“Jinglebells, dinklebells. Dink is the sound that you make when the ball hits the paddle,” says Alabama State Games, ASF Foundation Media Relations Manager Griffin Pritchard.
The Alabama State Games and ASF came up with the idea of a pickleball tournament not just because of the traction the sport is gaining in Alabama but across the nation.
“This is our inaugural Dinklebells Tournament, so we wanted to have some type of tournament around Christmas and we kind of gave it a Christmas feel to it. We’ve got people from all over the State, we’ve got a nice group of people from the Oxford area, we’ve got of course people from the river region, Birmingham, Auburn, Opelika, so we’re excited about our turnout,” says Executive Director of the ASF Foundation Laura Burt.
