River Region Roller Girls Skated for a Good Cause

The River Region Roller Girls skated in their annual “Iron Roll” for a good cause tonight. The Elephants took on the Tigers and the Roller Tides took on the War Eagles in a double header for the benefit of the A Skate Foundation.

The foundation is a non-profit organization that allows children with autism to be part of the social world through skateboarding.

Over the past four years, the event has managed to raise over one thousand dollars for the cause.

“My son has autism so that’s how I found out about them,” said Lyra Stephens, who is also captain of the River Region Roller Girls. “We went to Birmingham to a skateboarding clinic they had there and so thats why we decided we really thought it was a great thing they were doing for the people of the community. We decided to donate.”

About 50 young women showed up today to participate in the event
