Millbrook man arrested on child pornography charges

Millbrook police say they have arrested a man on five counts of child pornography possession.

Police say 55-year-old James Mengel of Millbrook was charged after an investigation.

Police say on January 29, they received several cyber tips with regard to child sex abuse material from an internet service provider. They say their investigation connected that to an internet account linked to a phone number at an address in the 90 block of Supreme Court.

Yesterday, police say they executed a search warrant and seized several electronic devices believed to contain images of child pornography.

Police say they developed Mengel as a suspect, who voluntarily accompanied detectives to the Millbrook Police Department for questioning. During questioning, they say he admitted that he
had downloaded and possessed child pornography.

Mengel was taken to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under a $75,000 bond.
