ACTION 8 UPDATE: Millbrook police say a man who had been arrested on charges of child pornography possession now faces more related charges.

As Action 8 News has reported, 55-year-old James Mengel of Millbrook was charged last week with five counts of possession of child pornography. Police say tips led them to an internet account linked to a phone number at an address in the 90 block of Supreme Court, which brought Mengel’s arrest.

Police say during the continuing examination of evidence, detectives discovered video evidence that involved a minor child.

Yesterday, detectives secured additional arrest warrants for Mengel, who has been charged with two counts of production of obscene material containing the visual depiction of a person under 17 involved in obscene acts, and one count of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.

Mengel’s bond has been raised from $75,000 to $250,000 with the new charges.

“After speaking with the lead detective in this case, it is my understanding that there is a tremendous amount of evidence yet to be reviewed in this case. That stated, it would be reasonable to assume that there is a high likelihood that additional charges may be forthcoming. Cases like this are tough for all parties involved,” Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said.
