Safe from the Storm: What Are Action 8’s Code Red Warnings?
You may have seen our announcements that Action 8 News will issue a “Code Red” weather alert if dangerous storms threaten the area. What does this mean?
Action 8 Chief Meteorologist Shane Butler and meteorologists Ben Lang and Christopher Mathis will issue the alert when they examine data that shows potentially deadly and destructive storms are moving into Central, West or South Alabama.
When that happens, you will see a “Code Red” icon in the corner of your TV screen on Action 8, ABC 32, the CW Montgomery and MeTV as well as other on-air information and bulletins.
We will not issue a Code Red for every bad weather day. After all, storms are a part of life in Alabama.
But when Shane, Ben or Christopher issue a Code Red, you know the weather situation is serious and you need to make preparations to protect yourself, your family and your property.
Code Red isn’t just limited to severe storms. An alert may also be issued for dangerous winter weather, tropical weather, flooding or extreme temperatures.
