These grants are given annually to community based programs with the funds being used to help strengthen families and prevent child abuse and neglect in Alabama. This year, the agency awarded a total of 202 grants statewide to a range of prevention efforts including: parent education, home visiting, and community awareness programs.

Sallye Longshore, who is the Director of the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention, stated that the more funds they collect can provide more ways to help children in more parts of the state.

“The more money we have to grant out, the more programs we have to fund,” stated Longshore. “With the additional funding, we could move into the areas of the state that we consider underserved, that maybe have a lack of some of the resources, some of the more rural areas. We’re hoping and have a plan to do that.”

The check includes grants to 63 organizations and 97 programs working throughout Alabama’s 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Congressional Districts….
