New Scans Detect Tumors in Young Cancer Patients

Researchers at Stanford University and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital say they’ve developed a way to scan young cancer patients’ bodies for tumors without exposing them to high-levels of radiation which could lead to secondary cancers later in life.

In the study published in The Lancet Oncology, researchers describe how they injected patients with very small particles of iron…which are currently used to treat anemia.

The iron helps make tumors stand out during an MRI whole body scan.
