ACTION 8 UPDATE: Juvenile charged with arson in house fire that injured 2 people
Officials from Montgomery Fire/Rescue say a person has been arrested and charged with arson in an early morning house fire that injured two people.
Assistant Fire Chief Stanley Cooper tells Action 8 News that a juvenile female was transported to fire headquarters and mirandized and interviewed with her mother present.
Chief Cooper said the unidentified juvenile female stated that she went into her parents’ room and took some of her mother’s possessions, but doesn’t remember anything else.
The fire happened around 5:05 a.m. in the 2800 block of Willena Avenue.
Once firefighters arrived, they found smoke visible for a single-story home with smoke and flames showing.
Crews made a quick offensive attack on the fire and advanced inside to conduct a primary search of the home.
Once inside, they found two victims. Chief Cooper says a 6-year-old female and a 45-year-old male were both unconscious with smoke-related injuries. The victims were taken to Jackson Hospital for treatment.
Cooper also says a 46-year-old female refused further treatment and a 15-year-old female was found uninjured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
