Alabama launches new crime victim notification system
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has announced a new tool to help victims of crime and their families.
Wednesday, multiple state agencies came together for the introduction of the Alabama Victim Notification System’s new website.
Crime victims and their families can now be notified of inmates’ parole hearings and other changes in their status.
The notification system was put into place by a task force created by the legislature in 2011.
“The fact that the Alabama Legislature had the foresight to implement this project I think it’s a credit to them, but also it is what the state of Alabama owes victims across this state,” Marshall said.
“When it comes time for parole hearings, yes, we are always it’s a time of anxiety as soon as we get the notice that we start getting, you know, very anxious about it, so we are excited to see this. It was very easy to do, and we just appreciate everyone that worked so hard on this,” Donna Bush, who used the system to check on the status of a case involving her, said.
