Greenville native part of Academy Award winning documentary
From Alabama to Hollywood – a man who grew up in Butler County won an Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards earlier this month. Vince Womack – a native of Greenville – and his team won the academy award for Best Documentary Short Film. The film is called “The Last Repair Shop” and it profiles four craftspeople who maintain and repair over 80,000 musical instruments for students in the Los Angeles Unified School District where Womack has served since 1987. The film concludes with a touching performance conducted by Womack. He is the son of Ruby Mae Price Womack who still lives in Greenville.
