Pay It Forward: Patricia Sanders of Selma
Patricia Sanders works for the Blue Jean Church in Selma helping to prepare food for the needy.
She picks up people who do not have a ride to the church and takes them to get a meal.
She also helps them find housing if they are homeless.
“Ohhh, they love to see her coming. Some people be calling her and things like that. She loves doing it. If she can she’s going to do it,” said her husband and nominator Willie Sanders.
Her husband says her loving heart for others is what attracted him to her.
“I seen where she was going to nursing homes. Praying for everybody. She’s a good prayer. She’s a bishop; that’s what she do now. I like the way she do things. She tries to help anybody she can. She helps these people here. Take them to dinner somewhere in Montgomery, Thomasville, so I love her for doing that, and I fell in love with her for doing that,” said Willie.
Sanders says it’s all about giving to others in need and making them smile.
“I do it because I grew up in a poor community, and so I know what it feels like not to have. So as I grew, the Lord blessed me to be able to have. So I like to see people smile, especially those who walk around with no smile or have no reason to smile. I try to give them that smile that they feel they have no reason for,” said Patricia.
