Life of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy remembered at memorial service

Family, friends and colleagues of Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Jermyius Young gathered Monday for a memorial service to celebrate his life.

Young died Friday, April 5, after crashing his patrol vehicle on Hobbie Road while on duty two days earlier. He was 21 years old.

Young’s funeral was held this afternoon at the Church of the Highlands on Taylor Road.  His burial took place at the Alabama Heritage Cemetery on Atlanta Highway.

Action 8 News talked to those who will remember Young always.

“We are strong supporters of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and all first responders,” Kitty Stough said. “I have friends that are first responders. I have friends that are police officers. We are so sorry about what happened to Deputy Young.. It breaks all of our hearts.”

Gov. Kay Ivey ordered that flags be flown at half staff today in his honor.
