Sewage spill causing health concerns in Dallas Co.

A stream of free flowing wastewater and sewage running through a small trailer park in Dallas County — is raising health concerns for the people who live there.

Marvin and Cora Wilson say raw sewage has been flowing through their property like a like a river for about two weeks.

“Really wish it could be something done about it. We’ve been dealing with it for quite a while. And I’m just really tired of it,” he said.

“And the smell is terrible,” she said.

The couple has a half dozen mobile homes on the property behind their home — that they rent out. Families with children — live in those trailers.

“If they get into that, you know, bacteria, parasites and all that, germs and things could make them really sick,” said Shirley Hall.

“And then it’s all around like, it’s all around your trailer. It’s everywhere,” said tenant Brittany Peoples.

“The slightest rain, everything bags up. Plumbing bags up,” said tenant Jarian Moultrie.

“We’re having problems with it washing all out of the piping and everything.”

Officials with the Dallas County Water and Sewer Authority — confirmed that they were working to fix two lift station that are malfunctioning.

“And that has caused some issues with our sewage collection system,” said Wastewater Treatment Manager Corey Martin.

“It is a high priority for us to address it as quickly as possible.

The Dallas County Water and Sewer Authority has reported the overflow issue — to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
