Meta has announced it will build an $800 million data center in Montgomery.
The announcement by Gov. Kay Ivey and other leaders took place this morning at Montgomery Whitewater.
Meta is the owner of Facebook, Instagram and other internet properties.
The 715,000 square foot data center will bring 100 jobs. It will be the 20th such center in the company. Meta says the focus of the center will be on artificial intelligence and technology.
The data center will be built off of Interstate 65, across from Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. Meta already has a data center in Huntsville which was announced in 2018.
The company says the construction will involve hundreds of local workers. Meta plans to become involved with local schools to build relationships focused on technology.
The center will be powered by 100% renewable energy and attain net zero emissions, according to Meta.
The data center is expected to open by the end of 2026.
