Several St. James Trojans bring home State Tennis Titles
After placing runner-up as a team, several members of the St. James Girl’s Tennis Team brought home individual state titles. The Trojans had four girls win singles state titles and then a pair win in doubles.
Bringing home the singles titles were senior Addison Seale (line 6), sophomore Karly Bailey (line 3), sophomore Davis Wilsford (line 4), and sophomore Helen Johnston (line 5.)
Seale excited to end
her high school career with a state title in hand.
“It feels amazing because we worked really hard all season and this is also my last season so it was the perfect way to end out,” says Seale.
This is the second state championship for Bailey who won in singles two years ago as an eighth grader.
“It was so much fun. We were all on the same courts next to each other so between games we were able to cheer on each other,” says Bailey.
This was the first state championship title for Wilsford.
“It felt really great. I was really relieved, but I was just more thankful than anything to be there and win,” says Wilsford.
In addition to her line 5 singles state title, Johnston also was a member of the Trojans doubles pairing who took home the first place trophy.
“It felt really good like I was really nervous going into it but then like halfway through the finals match I started being less nervous and playing better and it felt really good winning singles and then I got to go back out and win doubles,” says Johnston.
The other member of the winning doubles pairing was eighth grader Raleigh Covert.
“It really felt good, it felt like we were all a team and that we could all win and we worked really hard this season so it felt really good to win, ” says Covert.
