ACTION 8 UPDATE: The name of the man shot by a Montgomery police officer on Thursday has been released.

The State Bureau of Investigation has identified the suspect as 57-year-old Grady Owens of Montgomery. The SBI says he brandished a gun as officers were trying to serve him with an arrest warrant.

Montgomery Police Maj. Saba Coleman told Action 8 News Thursday that the shooting happened at about 2:31PM in the 4100 block of Troy Highway, which is near the intersection of Park Towne Way.

Coleman said an MPD SWAT member was involved in a shooting.

The man who was shot suffered a life-threatening injury, according to Coleman. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. The officer wasn’t hurt.

Coleman says the case has been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation.

The SBI says its findings, once completed, will be turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office.
