8 ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT: Cucumbers in Alabama, other states recalled
8 ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT: Cucumbers in 14 states, including Alabama, are being recalled over health concerns.
Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc. of Delray, Florida, is recalling cucumbers shipped from May 17-21 to retail and food service distribution centers due to possible salmonella contamination.
The recall came after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture said a product sample tested positive for salmonella.
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, vomiting and stomach cramps. The effects can be more severe in young people, the elderly and those with other health concerns.
The cucumbers were shipped to wholesalers and distributors in the following states besides Alabama: Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
The hope is that the problem was caught before the cucumbers made it the grocery stores, but if you have recently bought cucumbers, you may want to check to be sure.
