From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A series of community fun-day events are planned in several West Alabama counties. The goal is to try and help improve voter turnout.
The Wilcox County town of Yellow Bluff — is hosting one of the fun-day voting events this Saturday at the town hall — from 10 am to 2 pm.
The event is an effort to reach out to people who may be afraid to go to the polls out of fear of being arrested — due to outstanding warrants or tickets. As well as — people who believe they can’t participate in the process — because of criminal convictions.
“The purpose of this event is to get people energized and increase the voter turnout. We want participation. No matter who you vote for, we want your voice to be heard,” said Collins Pettaway, Jr.
“So, you don’t have to be afraid. We’re not here to do anything nefarious. We just trying to make sure that you have all the rights that everybody else have,” said Arthur Broadnax.
The event is sponsored by Black Voters Matter — the town of Yellow Bluff — the Omega Chi Foundation — and Bama Kids.
Fun day voting rallies are also planned for Dallas — Perry — and Hale counties.
