Arrest made in Montgomery triple homicide

Montgomery police have made an arrest in a triple homicide that took place at a Hispanic grocery store last month.

Police say 18-year-old Jarques Butler, of Montgomery, is charged in the shooting deaths of 50-year-old George Elijah, Jr., 20-year-old Daniel Lopez and 43-year-old Romero Lopez.

Officials say contact was made with Butler around 1:39 p.m. earlier today in the area of East Fifth Street. Butler fled on foot, but after a thorough search of the area by MPD Special Operations, with the help of the Alabama Law Enforcement Aviation Unit, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

As Action 8 News has reported, the shooting happened just before 9PM on June 4 in the 4100 block of Troy Highway, at the location of Tienda Los Hermanos. Robbery was the apparent motive.

Police say Elijah, Jr. and Daniel Lopez died at the scene, while Romero Lopez passed away from his injuries at a local hospital.

Butler is currently charged with 3 counts of Capital Murder. He is currently in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on no bond.
